Funding
Maximising our sports potential
Funding may be available to clubs and groups through the following schemes.
The availability of funding allows one to carry out a range of initiatives aimed at significantly increasing people’s involvement in all aspects of active living and recreational sport, including participation, planning and leading.
Applicants for funding must demonstrate how grant aid assists their clubs and organisations in the raising of awareness of the benefits of physical activities.
Local Sport Grant Scheme 2011
Details of this fund will be released in late June 2011.
Capital Grants Scheme
The National Lottery funded sports capital programme provides funding to voluntary sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country towards the provision of sport and recreational facilities. Learn more…
Club Development Grant Scheme
Carlow Sports Partnership has responsibility for the administration of the youth sport grant scheme.
The club development grant scheme will provide provide assistance to sports clubs and not for profit recreation organisations within the County aiming to increase participation, improve the management and administration of clubs and develop youth structures in clubs and organisations providing sport and physically active recreation opportunities.
Community and Voluntary Organisations Grants
The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs invites applications from community and voluntary organisations for funding.
- Refurbishment grants will focus on addressing disadvantage or where evidence of need has been clearly identified within a community.
- Equipment grants is to support the activities of local community and voluntary organisations that are addressing disadvantage in their communities.
- Training grants is to support or enhance the activities of community and voluntary groups both national and local or community based.

Go for Life Grant Scheme
The Go for Life grant scheme aims to assist in the implementation of locally developed, well planned initiatives designed to increase participation in recreational sport and physical activity by older people. The scheme is geared towards:
- Assisting local clubs and organisations to enhance existing opportunities for their members.
- Assisting in the creation of new initiatives geared at involving older people in recreational sport and physical activity.

You may be eligible! If you are a club or community group struggling to get your endeavour off the ground, it might be worth checking out the following schemes. You may be in a position to apply for funding for your particular project.

AIB better Ireland awards. These awards are open to a diverse range of projects from culture, tourism and community development to communications, social and youth based projects. Entrants are assessed in three categories on the basis of the size of the group and the impact of the project on the community. Awards start at €1,000. Learn more…

Tesco awards.These awards are made available to local community projects that are based in areas where Tesco has stores and whose core work supports the welfare of children, elderly people and people with disabilities. Awards range from €2,000 to €5,000. Learn more…

With 20 awards to give away totalling €100,000 ( €5,000 each ), our bursaries represent a real opportunity for sports clubs around the country to support and encourage their local sports talent.
