Opportunities through sport

Image of a lady swimming 2012 promises to be a momentus year for sports development in County Carlow. Over the coming weeks we will be adding a multitude of courses and events to our calendar. Why not try something new. Get on the road to fitness now. Increasing your activity levels is not half as difficult as you might imagine and you will be surprised at how much fun it can be. Carlow Sports Partnership look forward greatly to seeing the sporting structures in County Carlow further develop over the coming year. 

County Carlow Walking Programme

County Carlow Sports Partnership is promoting walking as the perfect exercise to ' kick start ' a healthier you.  Anyone can start walking and it’s free.

Beir Bua Waterford Adventure Race

May 19th is the date for the Beir Bua Waterford Adventure Race – starting in the grounds of Mt Mellerary Abbey, through Glenshelane Forest; up the Vee to the stunning Bealough Lake and down into Lismore and Cappoquin along the Blackwater, this is truly a race through time.  Calling all family, friends, supporters and visitors to come along and support those taking part, cheer them on with the victorious chant of BEIR BUA……the Irish for ' Be Victorious ' or ' Grab the win '.

2012 Sports Capital Programme Grant Application Process Information Seminar

  1. Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport

Sports Capital Fund 2012 announced, €30M fund launched by Minister Ring to upgrade sports facilities across Ireland.  This is the first round of sports capital funding for four years .  Certain conditions have been relaxed meaning a greater number of clubs will benefit from this fund e.g. land ownership and match funding.  For more information click into the Department of Transport, Tourism abd Sport website.  For support with your application the Sports Partnership staff are available to assist clubs with the process.

Developing Girls Soccer in County Carlow 

After a number of meetings between the Carlow & District Juveniles League and the FAI it was decided that a plan was to be put in place in order to facilitate “Girls Soccer” within the Carlow & District Juveniles League.

Blackstairs Ramblers walking Club host a women's river ramble on Saturday 26th May 2012 walk in aid of the Saplings School in Goresbridge 

Join the blackstairs ramblers on a women’s charity walk through the stunning 18th century landscape along the grass towpath next to the River Barrow. Walk 10km from Borris to Graignamanagh and 16km from Borris to St. Mullins. For the more ambitious walkers, two hill walks are offered in the nearby beautiful Blackstairs Mountains. 2012 Operation Transformation Carlow Walk

The Operation Transformation Walk on the 14th was a huge sucess in Carlow this year with over 400 people taking part on the morning.  The Carlow-Graiguecullen Sli na Slánte 5K route is where the walk took place.
