Community
Opportunities through sport
The primary objective of County Carlow Sports Partnership is to increase opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity among the whole community. We realise that there are many different elements to this, reflecting peoples age, ability, and their current place in society i.e. are they schoolchildren, working parents, teachers, coaches or retired; to name just a few.
In general we spend most of our lives in school, in the workplace and in the community and thus in this section we will try and provide relevant information on sport and participation to particular groups.
Please note that we are very willing to include information and suggestions from the public and would welcome your thoughts and input.
Volunteering
Volunteers are at the heart of sport in County Carlow and without their unselfish commitment the county would be a poorer place. County Carlow Sports Partnership seeks to support sports volunteer through providing quality training programmes. This includes subsidised workshops and courses in:
- Code of ethics and best practice in sport.
- Sports first aid.
- Funding information seminars.
- Committee training.
- Speed, agility and quickness workshops.
For further updates on workshops and training please reveiw our courses and events calendar. Click here…
Schools
CCLSP is dedicated to increasing physical activity in our community and local schools are one of our most important target areas. CCLSP through the BUNTUS programme provides free sports equipment to schools who take part in Buntus training. The principal ethos behind Buntus is fun and participation by all regardless of ability.
For more detailed information on Buntus and a list of schools currently on the programme please visit our programmes page here. Click here…
Workplace
We are all aware of the importance of physical activity for our physical and mental well being. Unfortunately however, many of us aren't active enough.
Lack of time is the biggest reason why people avoid exercise. The pressures of work, commuting, home and family life can leave little time left to fit in exercise. However, when you think of the many benefits that physical activity brings; nobody, least of all employers and employees, can afford not to make time for exercise !. Increasing your physical activity can be done in the workplace. Walking is probably the easiest way of doing this and allows for both individual and group actions. It may be done by taking the stairs instead of the lift, having a walk after lunch or taking a bike instead of the car to work, even one day a week. There are various organisations that provide information and assistance to companies seeking to improve workplace health promotion.
-
Nutrition and health foundation.
-
Irish heart foundation.
Youth
County Carlow has one of the largest percentages of young people in its community in the country. The regular cry from young people especially teenagers is that " there's nothing for us to do ", however one of the biggest problems that we have identified is that often young people don't know where to find information on what to do.
Through our clubs and facilities database; we hope to at least fill one of these information gaps. For the first time in the county you can now get details on all sports clubs and facilities in the one location.
On our links page you will also see links to various local and national organisations that may be of interest to you. Please have some understanding though that we are predominantly focussed on sport and physical activity so unfortunately there won't be links to the latest cinema or music reviews !
