Opportunities through sport

News logo. 2010 promises to be a momentus year for sports development in County Carlow. Over the coming weeks we will be adding a multitude of courses and events to our calendar. Why not try something new. Get on the road to fitness now. Increasing your activity levels is not half as difficult as you might imagine and you will be surprised at how much fun it can be.

Carlow Sports Partnership look forward to seeing the sporting structures in County Carlow further develop over the coming year.

2010 Local Sports Grant Scheme

County Carlow Sports Partnership is inviting proposals from sports clubs and groups to its 2010 Local Sports Grant scheme.

An application form and grant scheme criteria is available for download below:

The scheme, which is funded by the Irish Sports Council, aims to support existing sports clubs and encourage the establishment of new clubs to undertake initiatives and programmes which will lead to increased participation in sports and physical activity.

Priority will be given to applications which focus on minority sports and low participation groups, including young people, females, people with a disability, older adults, marginalised and disadvantaged groups. The maximum grant allocation is €1,000 per club.

The closing date for submission of application is 5.30pm, Monday 6th September 2010.

2010 Tipperary Women's 10km Mini Marathon

The inaugural Tipperary Women's 10km Mini-Marathon which will be held in Thurles at 2pm on Sunday, 19th September.

2010 Get on Your Bike for Bike Week

Communities and schools organise fun and exciting activities to promote cycling.

Family Fun Cycles, Mountain Biking, Forest Trail Cycles, Novelty Bike Displays, Decorative Bike Display, a Cycle from Cork to Carlow, a Bicycle Sports Day, a Bike Maintenance workshop - These are just a small example of events being organised by communities and schools throughout Carlow to mark national ‘Bike Week’ 2010 ( 13th – 20th June ) which was launched by County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr. Michael Doran and the pupils of SN Molaise, Old Leighlin on Friday, 4th June.

Bike Week 2010 is an initiative to promote cycling across the country and is being supported by Carlow County Council and Co. Carlow Local Sports Partnership who are helping community groups and schools organise a wide range of fun and exciting events during the week.

Community Groups and primary schools in Carlow planning events for the week include, Ballon Improvement Group, Carlow Regional Youth Services, Clonegal Cycling Club, Comhairle na nÓg Youth Council, Graiguecullen Community Development Group, Leighlinbridge Improvement Group, Racing 795 Cycling Club, Scoil Padraig Naofa, Tullow, SN Molaise Old Leighlin and Tinryland GFC.
